Manufacturing of Iron and Steel Products : Rolling Mill
If we talk about manufacturing or exporting the iron and steel products, there are a lot of lucrative opportunities available. Basically, Steel Rolling is the process of reducing the cross-section of large ingots or Plates in stock. According to the various applications, the rolling process is used to produce finished or semi-finished products. Today, Steel roll manufacturers is the advanced technology which is the most accurate and cost-effective method to cater to the customer’s requirement in the best possible way. The easy availability and transportation of this machinery has opened the door for business.
In this process, steel is placed between two rolls to reduce the thickness of the steel is altered by manipulating the length direction of the steel rather than the width direction. The specific shapes can be created using the required material properties and geometrical dimensions. During this process, the volume and features of the steel remains the same. There are generally two types of Rolling Processes:- Hot and Cold Rolling Process. The basic difference between the two processes is just the difference between the processing temperature with regards to the recrystallization of the steel.
Hot Rolling Process:-
When the processing temperature is above the recrystallization of steel, this process is known as Hot Rolling Process. This process makes the steel soft and ductile. However, this may lead to loss of steel because of oxidation and poor quality of surface finishing.
Cold Rolling Process:-
In contrast to the hot rolling process, when the processing temperature of deformation is below the recrystallization of steel it is known as Cold Rolling Process. The hardness of steel is directly proportional to the chemical composition of steel as well as the rate of cooling. In this process, hardness is more intense as compared to the hot rolling process. The final metal sheet results has a smoother surface and the strength of the steel is increased. However, ductility of the steel decreases. The products result from the cold rolling process is more accurate in terms of dimensions and properties than the one obtained in the hot rolling process.
Operational Process of Rolling Mill:-
First, the billets and blooms should be heated at the very high temperature generally above 1100º C. To break the grain structure of the steel and destruct the boundaries, due to this high temperature, it is passed through the rollers. The slabs first passed through the casting process with increased temperature and then passed through rolling mills. For smaller operations, before the steel passed to rolling mills, it is being heated by soaking it in the pit. Indeed, Induction heating can also be used in smaller operations. The quality of the steel will be increased by this method as the toughness, formability, flexibility, strength, durability, shock resistant, vibration resistant ability etc. are improved.
In the end of the process, cooling is required. The cooling process has to be controlled by the working staff manually. This process has to be done carefully as it increases the higher risk of breaking up the products and damaging it completely.
Manufacturing Unit or known as Rolling Mill situated in Shivaji Nagar, Malwa mill, Indore, with production capacity 25 ton per day.
